Designing for the 2030 Agenda
“The contribution of Spanish companies to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” is the sixth report published by the SDG Observatory of Esade and the La Caixa Foundation in the past six years. I had the honor of leading the editorial direction and information design for the entire series, creating clear, impactful reports that communicate progress toward the 2030 Agenda.
Design decisions
Each book in the collection displays the 17 SDG colors on its spine, creating a clear visual identity for the series on the shelf. The same colors also shape the palette for the book’s diagrams and data visualizations.
This year’s research focused, as the subtitle states, on “Promoting sustainability in a polycrisis environment.” A polycrisis is the simultaneous occurrence of several catastrophic events. To reflect this, I designed the cover around a multi-line decreasing graph. Yet, to introduce a more optimistic perspective, the inner cover reveals the same graph rising upward.
From Data to Design: Visualizing the SDGs
The book presents a framework of the SDGs and their goals, along with key findings from the analysis of how Spanish listed companies integrate them into their agendas. The model breaks down the data by sector—energy, consumer goods, industrial and construction, real estate, consumer services, financial services, and technology—to show how each applies the SDGs. After running multiple tests in Excel and Tableau and defining categories, I created the final charts and diagrams in Illustrator.
